As we mature we gain a depth of knowledge, a breadth of experience, and a length of aspiration togetherwith other elements that combine to develop students into adults with these dimensions. The RHYTHM of school days set by the teachers who guide us, the EMPHASIS placed upon the seniors to prepare for graduation, the VARIETY found among the students and in classes, t of teamwork in sports and of the students who back them, and the BALANCE between the social and academic life which is attained in -school activities--all merge to create the whole of a high school student. Because of this background of knowledge, experience and aspiration gained during our high school years, we wish you to know that we are grateful and feel that we are prepared to search for a new di- mension, THE DIMENSION FOR TOMORROW. Our thanks to everyone for all assistance in our academic lives and for the successful completion of our annual project--THE YELLOW JACKET YEARBOOK, to which you have so nobly contributed. multitude of beliefs, Tradition is an important word at Anderson High School . . . a word which encompasses a customs, standards and goals that have become a vital part of Anderson High School life. Some traditions have developed through the years as Anderson High has expanded in its enrollment, its size and its accomplishments, yet there are others that can be established, if there is a will to do. f ed ith the challenge to continue cherished traditions and at the same time add to the heritage Seniors are ac w of Anderson High. Each class has its own opportunities to develop traditions, but each year's innovations may prove to be different. It is to be remembered that traditions which do not contribute to the present and are no longer valid must be evaluated constructively and then discarded: hence each class must assume the responsi- bility of establishing new goals, setting new standards and initiating activities which will be worthy of being called Anderson High Traditions by the seniors of the future . . . This is your challenge, the invitation to maintain, to match, to create and to surpass. Cl of Anderson High School proudly presents the 1965 YELLOW With this in mind, the 1965 Graduating ass JACKET YEARBOOK to serve among the traditions of the school. This fact, if fully appreciated, clarifies several other as ects of the interrelation between the school and community. The education of children is a cooperative enterprise P in which the school plays a selective role, but that role must be played in cooperation with other agencies, especially the homeg otherwise the educative influence of the several agencies will be at variance and may counteract each other. We atAnderson High School have the assurance of all three. For the past twelve years Miss Lucile E. Frazier has served as Faculty Advisor for the Yellow Jacket Yearbook, the first publication of its kind ever produced for Anderson High. These' publications have created lasting impressions for they have not only been good public relation media but the best representations for the entire school program. For many years Miss Frazier has occupied the position as senior English instructor at Anderson High School, Austin, Texas. Because of her unchanging effort to stress thoroughness, exactness and neatness has graduated with honors many promising students into first-class English instructors. Another accomplishment attributed to her credit is the intercession she made to secure a national charter for the organization of a National Honor Society. The charter was granted and the present W. B. Campbell Chapter of the National Honor Society was organized. This organization is now The Organiza- tion of the Day at Anderson High. Lastly, to her goes the credit for the organization of the first official CAP and GOWN DAY3 which has become a tradition at Commencement Exercises for prospective graduates of Anderson High School. Miss Frazier obtained her education at Huston-Tillotson College, Austin, Texas, and Prairie View A dz M College, Prairie View, Texas, where she received the B.A. and M.A. Degrees in English respectively. Her post graduate study has been at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the University of Texas, Austin, Texas. 'For her devoted service and outstanding leadership: for being a wise counselor, a loyal supporter of Anderson High School, a good disciplinariang for her rare ability to add pleasure and satisfaction to learning, also, for the priceless gifts of knowledge and the inspiration she has bestowed upon us, .lf-tithe 1965 Yellow Jacket Staff wish to dedicate The 1965 YELLOW JACKET YEARBOOKU to Miss Lucile Edna Frazier, Faculty Advisor, as a token of our sincere appreciation and gratitude. WILLIAMS B.S. , Huston-Tillotson College LIBRARY CLERK LVN :9 'r w Q2f'..,, .4 29 'he ummun Mak - It is not the straining for great things that is most effectiveg it is the doing the little things, the common duties, a little better and better - the constant improving - that tells. We often see young people who seem very ambitious to get on by leaps and bounds, and are impatient of what they call the drudgery of their situation, but who are doing this drudgery in a very ordinary, slipshod way. Yet it is only by doing the common things uncommonly well, doing them with pride and enthusiasm, and just as well, as neat- ly, as quickly, and as efficiently as possible, that you take the drudg- ery out of them. This is what counts in the final issue. How can you expect to do a great thing well when you half do the little things? These are the stepping-stones to the great things. The best way to begin to do great things is to improve the doing of the little things just as much as possible - to put the uncommon effort into the common task, to make it large by doing it in a great way. Many a man has dignified a very lowly and humble calling by bringing to it a master spirit. Many a great man has sat upon a cob- bler's bench, and has forged at an anvil in a blacksmith's shop. It is the man that dignifies the calling. Nothing that is necessary to be done is small when a great soul does it. - Orison Swett Marden - -5.4, ,Q-Q .11 ' S. A 6 A-V r :if QW? nf '. To break our own record, to outstrip our yesterdays by todays, to bear our trials more beautifully than we ever dreamed we could, to whip the tempter inside and out as we never whipped him before, to give as we never have given, to do our work with more force and a finer finish than ever, - this is the true ideal - to get ahead of ourselves. To beat someone else in a game, or to be beaten, may mean much or little. To beat our own game means a great deal. Whether we win or not, we are playing better than we ever did before, and that's the point after all - to play a better game of life. ' JOHN F. KENNEDY Youth must know there is no royal road to fitness. They should be taught that they have to expend energy to keep fit. If they are willing to make the effort, they can enjoy being in top physical condition throughout their lives. Anderson High School promotes a sound physical education program including physical fitness. This means instruction in body mechanics, posture, body conditioning and self-testing activities as stunts, tumbling, running and jumping and exercise on apparatus. Other activities are rhythmic-folk and square dancing, devel- opmental and the fundamental skills used in team and individ- ual sports, such as basketball, softball, tennis, badminton. The physical education program also includes a study of the value of regular, vigorous activity as a part of daily living, rules for individual and team garnesg and an understanding of one's strength and weaknesses in physical performance. The trend away from physical fitness must be reversed. Ultimately we must change our habits Fitness must become popular if this nation is to regain its vigor. - CHARLES B. Pmhemnn arent- 4 rather Ptasfuriaiinn STRONG SUPPORTER OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES The Parent-Teacher Association of Anderson High School is an organization through which parents and teachers work together to promote the welfare of the students. At the beginning of the school year, parents re- ceived information from the president concerning the association's goals and other business matters. The project for the year to sponsor a MRS. P-TA CONTEST and assist in furnishing reading material for the reading center was presented and accepted. The purpose of the MRS. P-TA CONTEST was to raise money for two scholarships to be given needy and deserving students who want to continue their education but are unable. In November parents were invited to attend a BACK-TO-SCHOOL-NIGHT where they went through their children's schedules of a day to get insight of students' every day routine. Cooperation was the key to the 1964-1965 P-TA's accomplishments and without it, our efforts would have been as naught, and it is with a deep sense of gratitude that I express my thanks and appreciation to Principal Pigford, parents and teachers for a love- ly program of work, wonderful fellowship and good will to all.
