William Edward Pigford. lr., native of Bryan, Texas, is the third of five children of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pigford, Sr. His public school training was received in the Bryan Colored Schools, Bryan, Texas, his high school training at Paul Quinn College, Waco, Texas, where he received his high school diploma. Upon completion of his undergraduate work at Prairie View College, Prairie View, Texas, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Along with his literary work whlle at Prairie View, he participated in varsity baseball, was a member of the Alpha Pl Mn l-lonorary.Soclety, the Beta Pl Chi Sclentlflc Society, eamed the rank of Captain in the ROTC, was a member of the college quartet and in his senior year was elected president of the college chorus. Since graduating from Prairie View College, Mr. Plgford has attended Westem Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, Sam Huston College, Austin, Texas, Tillotson College, Austin, Texas, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, and Our Lady of the Lake College, San Antonio, Texas, where he received his Master of Education degree. Educationally, he has served as Dean of St. Paul Junior College, Mexia, Texas, one year and for the past twenty- three years has taught and coached: at Georgetown, Texas, one year, San Angelo, Texas, six - yearsg and Anderson High School, Austin, Texas, sixteen years. Presently he is sewing his third term as principal of Anderson High School. His wife, Mrs. Ethel Bell Plgford of Longview, Texas, was a classmate of Mr. Pigford, while both were attending Prairie View College. . Mr. Pigford's religions affiliation ls with Grant Chapel A. M. E. Church were he serves as nustee. Fratemally, he is a charter member of the Webb Smith Consistory No. 247, Prince Hall affiliation, and professionally he is a member of the Central Texas District Teachers Association, the Texas State Teachers Association, the National Educational Association, State Principals' Association, the American Teachers Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
