Our Principal The bert men are 1701 fhoye who hare waited for claunres, but who bare taken lbem, befeiged life chance, conquered the cbanre, and made lbe chance llaeir ,rer1'it01'. fCl-IAPIN The foregoing expression depicts in a very appropri- ate manner the life of Mr. W. B. Campbell, for he has in time past experienced the truths hidden within the verses, taken advantage of the chances spoken of in a very magnificent way and is now recognized as one of the grandest and noblest educational servitors of the day. Cameron, Texas, claims this native son but Austin too shares in his development for it was in the city of Austin that he entered the public schools at an early age and continued until graduation. The parents of Mr. William B. Campbell, Mrs. Ella Campbell and the late Dr. Lee Lewis Campbell, a Baptist Leader and Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Austin, Texas, sensed the'need for the continuation of their son's education and after proper consideration for his professional training, entered him at Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical College, Prairie View, Texas. Upon graduation from this institution he immediately sought higher training and it was at Shaw University, Raleigh, North Carolina, that he re- ceived his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Realizing that education was a growing process, and to keep abreast of this process one should continually improve his status, he was not content and in a few years we find him receiving a Master of Arts Degree in Education Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Thirty-nine years of outstanding service as an educator and leader in educational organizations is a credit not only to him but the race at large. His public career began at Anderson High School where he taught four years after which he was called to the service in the United States Army and served abroad two years, during World War I, as Captain in the United States Army and as instructor in the Officers' Candidate School, Des Moines, Iowa. When he re- turned from the service of his country, he accepted the principalship of St. john Institute, Austin, Texas, and served for ten years. Later he returned to the Austin Public School System as principal of Ander- son High School where he has, for the past twenty- five years, served most creditably. Along with his public service his Christian service is truly an integral part of his life for he is an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Austin, Texas, has served and is serving as Chairman of the Trustee Board and Treasurer of the church respectively. His affiliations with professional organizationslare the Local Teachers' Association, the Central District Teachers' Association, the State Teachers' Association, a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Association of School Administrators, and the State Commission on School Accreditation. The William B. Campbell family has seven members. His wife, the former Miss Mabel Stinnett of Bren- ham, Texas, and four children, Dr. Lee Lewis Camp- bell, II, head of the Department of Education, Knox- ville College, Knoxville, Tennessee, Mrs. Ella Mae Campbell-johnson, Intermediate Teacher, Rosewood School, Austin, Texas, Miss Willie B. Campbell, In- structor of Mathematics, Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas, Miss Dorothy Nell Campbell, As- sistant Professor of Music, Huston-Tillotson College, Austin, Texas, and two grand-daughters, Michon and Cynthia johnson. Recreational hobbies, fishing and hunting, are a defi- nite part of his outdoor life and have made him an avid practitioner but professional literature captures him any time and any place. The Gamma Eta Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity claims his membership in Greekdom but the entire citizenry of Austin revere and acclaim him one of the most worthwhile, respected citizens, not only in Austin, Texas, but wherever he is known and wherever he goes. dministration mt '477Z TO THE FACULTY AND STUDENTS OF ANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL . . . It is a privilege for me to have the opportunity of writing a message to the faculty and student body of the new Anderson High School to be placed in the yearbook, THE YELLOW JACKET. The Senior Class of 1954 has had the signal honor of being the first group to graduate from the new Anderson High School, You have had the privi- lege and the responsibility of helping set the patterns, the customs and tra- ditions of this fine new school. I am sure you have wrought well in doing this very thing and know that you will remember this great experience with pride and pleasure for the remainder of your lives. As you look back after years have passed, you can always say that you had a part in building the spirit and laying the foundations of this institution. The same is true for the teachers who are members of the first faculty to serve in this school. I trust that this year has been a pleasant and profitable one for all of you, and it is my wish and that of your teachers, your parents and your friends that you may continue with your good work and be led by your ambitions to greater and continuous achievements.
