Not only does he preside over meetings of the student body, but he communi- cates the general concerns and suggestions of the students to the faculty, staff, and administra- tion. Tommy Harrell is from Hamp- ton, South Carolina. He is an ac- tive member of other campus or- ganizations such as OIK and the Ivy Leaves Staff. He has also par- ticipated in many theater produc- tions on campus such as A Raisin In The Sun . After graduating from Anderson College, Tommy plans to attend Syracuse Univer- sity. Tommy Harrell 68 EXECUTIVE BRANCH The SGA Executive Branch consists of the President, Vice- President, and Secretary of the SGA as well as the freshmen and sophomore class presidents and the Social Board Chairperson. This section of the SGA acts as a support group for the SGA Presi- dent. They are also responsible for planning the agendas for the meetings of the SGA Senate. The purpose of the Senate is to pursue recommendations from the students and to represent pro- posals to the appropriate authori- ties of the college. 70 SENATORS There are eight freshmen stu- dents and eight sophomore stu- dents that form the Senators. After reviewing each case, the committee deter- mines whether the ticket should be rejected or approved. Jolynn Parchen and Kelly Alexander COMMUNICATIONS The Communications Commit- tee of the SGA serves as the bridge between the student gov- ernment association, the faculty, staff, administration and the stu- dent body. They also work with other campus organizations in planning campus wide activi- ties. 76 CHAIRPERSONS The Social Board Chairpersons Committee consists of all the chairpersons of the individual So- cial Board committees. Each chairperson is responsible for planning and sponsoring certain social activities for the student body. Such activities include movies, dances, concerts, per- forming artists, retreats, and shortcourses. ' s for the dances such as the Christmas Formal, the Valentine Dance, and the Halloween Dance. 78 MOVIE VIDEO The Movie and Video Commit- tee selects and shows movies and videos on campus for the students to enjoy during their study breaks and leisure time. During the showing of movies in The Backroom, refreshments are served such as yogurt, pizza, popcorn, and cokes. This gives the stu- dents a chance to show skill and creativity through competitive events. 82 TRAVEL SHORTCOURSE The Travel and Shortcourse Committee provides extracurric- ular learning experiences and weekend trips for the students. Shortcourses such as shagging and self-defense along with snow ski trips give the students a chance to learn through recre- ational activities. They are responsible for planning, supporting, and partici- pating in the fellowship and inspi- ration of the students in develop- ing their spiritual lives. 84 AGAPE Agape is composed of small groups of students that meet in the dorms for a special time of Bible Study, prayer, and fellow- ship. This gives the students a chance to share their thoughts and beliefs in a group environ- ment and to evaluate their own lives on a spiritual level. This al- lows the students to receive first- hand experiences from different areas of the ministry through lec- tures, literature, and large organi- zational meetings. 86 MISSIONS SOCIAL ACTION The Missions Social Action di- vision of Campus Ministries is made up of three teams that min- ister to community groups at places such as Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, the Boys Club, and Autumn Care Nursing Home. These students share to- gether with the individuals through Bible study, recreational activities, and fellowship.
