President Hopkins Appears On National T.V. A new program was begun at the Col- lege this year which gave unemployed people college benefits. The program of College Education for the Unemployed (CEU) drew national attention. President Mark Hopkins and CEU student Camilla York appeared on the NBC Today show in New York to discuss the plan. They were interviewed by Jane Pawley, program co-host. CEU allows unemployed people to study now, pay later. The plan was the administration ' s response to unemploy- ment in the Anderson County unem- ployment area which reached a high of 14 percent. With 85 CEU students enrolled for the second semester, other colleges noticed and played follow the leader. Ronald Reagan noticed, too, Dr. Hopkins re- ceived a personal letter from the White House commending the College for the plan. 22
