Tides Of Histor The character of a country cannot be understood without a basic knowledge of the people and events that have shaped its history. Politics, Viet Nam, racial riots, and inflation are only a few of today's prob- lems, which will determine tomorroW,s his- tory. Keeping abreast of these changing times, an effective social studies depart- ment is a vital component of today,s cur- riculum.
