I is A , Q? ssyxx sxsxsxj ' ss f is-as 2 Music Notes Durmg the years 39 and 40 the A H S has ad vanced much 1n the f1eld of mus1c New equipment more practice and excellen't d1rect1ng gave us many opportuni t1es for further advancement Th1s department includes the band glrls and boys glee clubs m1xed chorus and quartette-all under the d1rect1on of Mr Stucky The f1rst mayor music production staged 1n the new auditorium was the operetta Oh Doctor presented on February 4 This product1on a mus1cal comedy was very successful and d1splaved much new talent On March 15 our school was host to the S9dg'W1Ck County MUSIC Students fi om eleven school The fes't1val proved to be a success The D1St11Ct DJIUSIC Fest1va1 was held at W1Ch1ta University on April 12th and 13th. The participating groups and 'their ratings were: mixed chorus, good, boys' glee club, excellent, girls' quartette, excellent. Those students who presented solos and the ratings they re- ceived were as follows: Jon Cochran, boys' low voice, highly superior, Alphonse Schaplowsky, baritone horn, excellent, Wilmer Freund, trumpet, good, Edith Winter, violin, good, Margaret Mary Kocour, girl's medium voice, excellent, Jeanette Winter, piano, average, and Wilma Kaltenbach, saxaphone, excellent. May lst the girls' quartette and 'two soloists, Al- phonse Schaplowsky and Jon Cochran, attended the All- State Festival at Emporia. The last music event this year was the musical which was given on the evening of May 10th. This was an en- joyable recital of accomplishment.
