FootbaH Last September about thirty five boys attended the first football practlce Many of them were small and the football coach Mr Shilts had a huge task on his hands to pick the startlng eleven for the ensuing grld season because five of last year s starters were lost by gradua tion He finally arrived at the conclusion that Urban Falk Jon Cochran Paul Fouquet Rich Orth Ray Reich enberger Roman Breitenbach H J Schmitz Jr Al Schaplowskv Eugene Winter Francis Raple and Gerald Kerschen would represent the Hawks on the home grld 1ron against Valley Center The lettermen as on the football picture were Ist row M Stallbaumer P Fouquet R Orth J Cochran A Schaplowsky B Peltzer J Schmitz F Raple E Wmt er P Kraus W Bean R Breitenbach and Coach Shilts BasketbaH This marked the first year A. R. H. S. participated in basketball. From a beginner's standpoint, although not Winning many games, the season was a success. The new gym Was greatly appreciated by all the players. There were both first and second teams in the Sedg- Wick County League, both were entered by Hawk fives. The first team lost all their games, but if more experience had been present, this team had plenty of talent to be a threat. The second team was more successful, Winning four While losing five. The players on the basketball squad are: kneeling, B. Peltzer, L. Wetta, A. Schaplowsky, H. Schmitz, R. Reichenberger, K. Fo-uquet and G. Kerscheng standing, M. Sftallbaumer, E. Winter, J.
