In January 1992 he was ordered to USS CLEVELAND CLPD 75, as 3M Coordinator After this tour he received orders to Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity, San Diego, CA, where 116 was assigned as the Combat Systems Drvrsron LCPO. Hrs awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal ftwo awardS1, Navy Achrex ement Medal tfour awardsl and various campaign and service medals. I LCDR Michael T. Talaga ieutenant Commander Talaga was born in Gary, Indiana. He attended the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio and graduated in 1986 with a Bach- elor of Arts in Economics. He then attended Officer Candidate School, Newport, RI, and was commissioned in February 1987. His initial sea assignment was Sixth Division Deck Officer and Turret Officer in USS MISSOURI CBB 635 from 1987 to 1990. During this three-year tour, MISSOURI deployed to the Western Pacific and Northern Arabian gulf to participate in Operations Praying Mantis and Earnest Will. Following graduation from Steam EOOW , school, he reported as Main Propulsion Assistant in USS HALSEY CCG 235 from 1990 to ? 1992 and deployed to the Persian Gulf to participate in Operation Desert Strike. After c 6 6 attending Department Head School in 1994, he reported as Engineering Officer in USS W ANCHORAGE CLSD 363 from 1994 to 1996 and again deployed to the Persian Gulf for Operation Southern Watch. Subsequently, he served as a Space Examiner with Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Propulsion Examining Board from 1996 to 1998. While ashore, Lieutenant Commander Talaga attended the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA from 1992 to 1994 where he earned a Master of Science in Management with a subspecialty in Manpower Personnel Training Analysis, and most recently, as Executive Assistant and Assistant Chief of Staff for Manpower!Personne1 to Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific in Pearl Harbor, HI. , Lieutenant Commander Talaga has been awarded the Meritorious Seryice Meda1,.Navy Com- mendation Medal Qtwo awardsj, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. He attended the United States Naval Academy and graduated in 1990 with a B.S. in Oceanography and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. In August 1990, he at- tended The Basic School and went on to Infantry Officers Course in March 1991. From the Infantry Officers Course he was assigned to lst Battalion, Third Marines at Marine Corps Air Sta- tion, Kaneohe Bay, HI, where he served as a rifle platoon com- mander, weapons platoon com- mander and executive officer for Alpha Company and as the Headquarters and Service Com- pany executive officer. He was transferred in October 1994 to Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, VA, where he served as a platoon commander, guard officer, and executive officer until October 1997. He attended the Armor Officer Advanced Course at Ft. Knox, KY and was transferred to lst Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in May 1998, where he was initially assigned as the Battalion Fire Support Coordinator. In February 1999, he was assigned as the Commanding Officer for Delta Company, lst Light Armored Reconnaisance Battalion. In February 2000, his company was attached to Third Battalion, lst Marines for service and deployment with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit CSpecial Operations Capablej. , He is married to LCDR Donna Marie Young, who is currently assigned to the Fleet Cryptologic Team Trainer at Point Loma, CA.
