EXECUTIVE OFFICER CDR JOEL D. KING Commander King received his commission in May of 1983 through the NROTC program at Rensselaer Polytech- nic Institute. After attending Surface Warfare Officer School he reported to USS LONG BEACH CCGN95 in Febru- ary of 1983. During his initial sea tour he served as X Division and then OE Division Officer. Split-touring off LONG BEACH in April of 1985, he next served in USS SAMPLE CFF 10485 from August of 1985 to June of 1987 as Damage Control Assistant and then Main Propulsion Assistant. Earning his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Monterey Naval Postgraduate School, Commander King followed by lateral-transferring to the Nuclear Power Program, attending Nuclear Power School in Orlando and Prototype at Ballston. After prototype he served as Elec- trical Officer in USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER CCVN 695 from March of 1991 to March of 1993, where he achieved his Nuclear Engineer Certification. Upon graduation from Department Head School, Commander King served in USS DENVER CLPD 95 from January 1994 to October 1995 as Operations Officer, and in USS TARAWA CLHA 15 from December of 1995 to July of 1997 as Navigator. He reported to USS ANCHORAGE CLSD 365 as Execu- tive Officer in September of 1997. Commander King's awards include the NavyfMarine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy!Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign and service medals. CDR King is married to the former Kara Collins of San Diego, CA. They have two children, a son and a daughter. EXECUTIVE OFFICER 5
