LEWISTON, IDAHO 1 'Dedication In appreciation for a job well done, the 1960-61 publica- tions class would like to dedicate the year book to Mrs. Beatrice Taplin, a teacher at Anatone High School for many years. Mrs. Taplin started her teaching career at Anatone in the year 1937. Mrs. Taplin not only teaches at the school, but is always willing to help wherever she is needed. She is always avail- able and willing to help students and teachers of the school. Mrs. Taplin is active in the school, the community, and in the local church. She has taught publications for a number of years. It is one thing which no misfortune can de- crease, no crime destroy, no enemy take away, no dictator can enslave; at home it is a friend; to others an introduction. It reduces vice by guiding virtue; costs much financial sacrifice and mental pain, but in life values it will repay every cost one hundred-fold. £cUfo% d Tfteddaye As we look back into this year's annual, may the events it depicts bring pleasant memories of times both fun and serious. When we think back through our high school days we will have no cause to feel that these were years spent merely marking time or were wasted. Everything we did during these years will influence our lives in the future. May we always work to improve ourselves in ways that will help those about us as well as our country. It is up to us to help prepare the way for those who will follow in our foot- steps. We can't do this resting; we must continue to work. 3 (ZalcKctasi August 30 September 13 September 16 September 20 September 23 October 7 October 7 October 28 November 18 November 24 December 2 December 21 January 13 January 20 February 11 February 24 February 28 March 4 March 20 March 29 April 3 April 5 April 14 May 12 May 21 May 22 May 26 May 27 First day of school Freshmen initiation Watermelon feed School pictures taken Teachers' reception End of first six weeks School carnival Halloween party End of second six weeks Beginning of Thanksgiving vacation Basketball seasons starts Christmas party End of semester Sleighriding party Valentine party End of fourth six weeks District tournament End of basketball season Skating party Sports Banquet High school plays Beginning of Spring vacation Junior-Senior Prom Senior sneak Baccalaureate Graduation Last day of school School picnic THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY R. TOM SMITH’S NUT SHOP CLARKSTON, WASHINGTON Settavi @Ca4A In the fall of 1949 five little, wide eyed first graders came to Anatone School, nerv- ous but anxious to learn. They were Donald Sangster, Darrel Watkins, Charles Eller, and Jack Newell. The next year the class lost Jack Newell who moved to Winthrop, Washington, but gained Matheial Gordon, who moved here from Cheney, Washington. During the years from 1952 through 1955 the class neither lost nor gained any stu- dents. In 1956 the class gained two new students who were Richard (Sonny) Hagenah from Reubens, Idaho, and Neal Mathews who also moved here from Idaho. In the fall of '58 the school year opened with six, bewildered but determined fresh- men. During the summer a new students joined the class, Douglas Mallory from Troy, Oregon. These six new students were firmly initiated into high school October 13. The class elected Donald Sangster president, Sonny Hagenah vice-president, and Matheiai Gordon, secretary. Mrs. Taplin was class advisor. During the first year, the boys all participated in sports. The second year the class was sorry to lose an old classmate and friend, Charles Eller, who moved to Spokane, Washington. Class officers for that year were Hap Watkins, president, Doug Mallory, vice- president, and Matheial Gordon, secretary. Mr. Reinmuth was class advisor. The fall of 1960 was quite eventful for these juniors. The class was sorry to lose Donald Sangster who moved to Clarkston, Washington. They had the usual junior prom May 13, which was decorated for the theme of Deep Purple . Their class advisor for that year was Mr. Wendover. Sonny was elected class president, Doug Mallory, vice-president and Matheial Gordon, secretary. In the fall of 1960 the group entered school for this last important high school year. The class was happy to gain a new class member, Sonnie Shirley who came to Anatone from Asotin during their senior year. Four of the five held student body offices during their senior year. Matheial Gordon is student body president, Sonny Hagenah, vice-president, Douglas Mallory, treasurer, and Sonnie Shirley, secretary. 9 SetUat (?Cti44 MATHEIAL GORDON Secretary 1,2,3 Chorus 1 Class Plays 2,4 Paper Staff 3 Girls' State 3 Inspirational Award 4 Cheerleader 2,3,4 President 4 DOUG MALLORY Chorus 1 Baseball 1,2,3 Vice-President 2,3 Basketball 2,3,4 Class Plays 2,3,4 Carnival King 3 Annual Assistant Editor 3 Annual Editor 4 Paper Staff 3,4 DARRELL WATKINS Chorus 1 Baseball 1,2 Class President 2 Student Council 2 Basketball 1,2,4 Class Plays 2,3,4 Paper Staff 3 Boys' State 3 SONNIE SHIRLEY Chorus 4 Class Play 4 Student Body Secretary 4 Student Council 4 Class Secretary 4 Cheerleader 4 Paper Staff 4 Transfer from Asotin RICHARD HAGENAH Basketball Captain 4 Inspirational Award 4 Class President 3 Vice-President 1 Chorus 1 Baseball 1,2,3 Basketball 2,3,4 Class Plays 1,2,3,4 Paper Staff 3,4 Paper Editor 4 Annual Staff 3,4 10 Left to right: Jon Mallory, Gerald Halsey, Advisor Mrs. Beatrice Taplin, Robert Hough, Paul Hendrickson, Franldin Onstot absent. tycctUox, @t iM THIS PAGE SPONSORED BY HOLZMILLER'S GARAGE NELSON'S LOCKERS ANATONE, WASHINGTON ANATONE, WASHINGTON 11 Left to right: Linda Botts, Paul Halsey, Dennis Kroll, Advisor Mr. Fred Wendover, Boyd Hough, Steve Wendover, Susan Amen.
