MR RURTON TRAVIS Azalea Staff Dedicates '61 Yearbook To School Trustee, Mr. Burton Travis When Burton M. Travis completes his present term as a trustee of Analy Union High School, he will have served his community in that capacity for twenty-two years. This is a remarkable testimony of public trust on the part of the electorate, and a remarkable testimony of public spirit on the part of Mr. Travis. The Public, as any one who has served in a public office can testify, is a hard master. Thomas Jefferson once remarked that, when a man assumes a public trust, he becomes public property He becomes a servant subject to the whims and demands of a many-headed master. In recent years, since the full gaze of the public has been turned critically on the schools, this position of school trustee has become a time-consuming, exhausting, and even heart-breaking job. Few people are public spirited enough to assume such a responsibility even for a short time. It is fitting, then, that Analy Union High School dedicate this year book to Mr. Burton M. Travis in recognition of and gratitude for twenty-two years of dedicated service to his school and this community. 3
