MR LAURENCE DUFFIEID Principal L. A. Duffield Urges Graduating Seniors to Continue Their Education As graduating seniors, you are probably wondering if you should continue your education or enter the labor market. Think seriously of the value of con- tinuing your education. Don't be, as the old Dutchman ruefully said, Too soon oldt, and to late schmart! History will undoubtedly record the vast development of technology and increased industrialization as the outstanding feature of this century. The need for unskilled labor is rapidly disappearing. The need for even semi-skilled workers is greatly reduced, due to the efficiency of the machine. The need for skilled workers and technicians, on the other hand, has grown and will con- tinue to grow. It is almost impossible for us to visualize a society where there is no place for unskilled labor, but the phenomenal advances made in technology even in the past ten years point with absolute certainty to just such a society. Are you going to be able to take your place in the new world? What you decide now about furthering your education will determine your place in the future. 6
