Santa Ana High School began its existence as a four ear h' h -y ig school in l889 in the Washington School on Church Street. ln l9OO the high school moved to quarters on Main Street, and remained there until l9l3. ln that year it transferred to a new plant on the present campus, where it continued as a four-year high school until 1954-the year in which the ninth grade became a part of the junior high schools. On March lO, l933, an earthquake damaged the buildings so badly that it was found necessary to replace four of them with new buildings. The new plant is composed of five new, modern, earthquake-proof buildings finished in i937 and four older undamaged ones. The campus consists of 23 acres located in the southwest portion of the city on Walnut Street between Ross and Parton Streets. Ample room is available for athletic fields, 12 tennis courts, a gymnasium, and a swimming pool.
