,M ' orewora OUR Tl'llCME for the 1931 Blue and Gold is the Hopi Indian, who lives in northeastern Arizona in seven isolated towns located on three almost inaccessible niesas. It was chosen as one unit of the historical theme depicting the events and contacts leading up to the founding of the Mother Miss mlm J. H-2,lk,e,. Colony at Anaheim. The Hopi- strange, silent, and inscrutable--captivated the fancy of the first men who crossed the plateau country, and were the subject of many interesting discussions and stories. The Hopi are an agricultural people, depending sole- ly upon the regularity of the rainfall for their existence. Out of their needs have grown their primitive religious ceremonies and the fascinating Hopi arts. Our art theme faithfully portrays some character- istic bits of the Hopi life that so intrigued the early western pioneers.
