5 Those of you, who through this book, remember The time and hours spent that long first day of September- Back in 1950- . When, into these halls we passed with friends, companions, and an urge to conquer histories and labs, the languages and all the maths. Those days we thought so vainly spent, ln hours of homework and discontent While grudingly on to school we went. For what , we'd say, Will all this toil and work And strife give us anything To take along through life? But now, At the end of this last year, 'Midst these halls we now find dear What comes? Further schooling, Work, or war? Whichever way, we have a chore To make a space in this wide world for freedom, happiness and peace Be we doctor, lawyer, or merchant chief. Whichever path we choose to follow These past three years will stand In bold relief, Engraved upon our minds. And now we've reached this Fifty-three We say to all- Our Principals, Advisers, Teachers, Let this be our salute- Within these ivy-covered walls, Save a space To set our TOTEM POLE in place. Richard Leavitt Co-Editor-in-Chief 9
