Under these circumstances the first ALUMNI ASSOCIATION was started with Richard Iohnston taking the helm as president. Meetings were held at the River Park Field House in a small back room. The Viking Spirit was always shown in the co-operation of both the faculty and stu- dents. Dancing and interchanging of correspondence among the members were the hobbies of the moment, but a roller-skating party, inspired by Marjorie Blankford, Sue Bobzien and Poppy Paleologos, was the social event of the season. One icy, winter day Mr. and Mrs. Boetticher, Albert Johnson and Dick Iohnston rode to Elgin to plan an alumni picnic: the two boys freezing, stiff and stuck in the rumble seat. Everyone laughed merrily when the picnic was called off, but not Mr. Boetticher. The second year brought reform with Iohn Peters as President. Culture was the key note and the ex-presidents basement was the site. Feverish attempts were made to have Wright Iunior Twentybthree College give a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta for the Association the whole effort was a failure. The members had no interest in such a watery form of culture. ln Iune of 37 the society was organized once again. Then began the popular Alumni vs. Amundsen football games. Annual Christmas Dances and summer formals were so suc- cessful that the Association donated a set of book covers to the school library. With the spring of l94l came the draft, so the traditional spring frolic was replaced by a card partyeedue to a serious man shortage. Of course the gals all have good times, but they miss the men who have gone to fight. More than once a bridge session has turned into a literal buy, buy bonds, bye, bye Axis and send the winners home session. Now the social program has been suspended until Victory, but the Alumni have not forgotten Amundsen nor will Amund- sen forget its Alumni.
