No longer is our immediate area predominantly inhabited by savage creatures that threaten our very existence; no longer must we shudder.in fear as we wonder what lurks beyond in dark shadows; no longer must we limit our quarry, our venture to these things that are manifest rather than these that are obscure or hidden. Yes.. .the aforementioned horrors are gone. They belong to a lost age; one we have never known. Now we are free; we are civilized; we belong to a modern way of life. Yet, out of this murky past, there emerges and remains a spirit or exemplification that is ever so tangible in our school. It is a spirit so great that would not die as did its bygone era. It is a spirit that can be found anywhere an Amory High School student can be found. It is unquestionably and without a doubt The Spirit of the Panther. The Panther Spirit is a spirit of majesty, of power, of cunningness, of wisdom, and, in some instances, of leadership. And this spirit is ours to take advantage of and use wherever we go. Although we are now free, civilized, and belong to a modern way of life, this spirit, descended from an ancient era, still does apply. Long reign The Spirit of the Panther! It is this spirit that the 1963 PANORAMA staff has tried to capture in the following pages. It is our hope that in future years when you thumb through this annual that you will be able to say sincerely that these were the good old days. MR. C. E. IIA YMAN, SUPERINTENDENT Inscribed in these pages are the records, the mementoes, the events, photographically perpetuated of a year in the life of each of us and of the Amory Junior-Senior High School. As the years pass by and memories fade, I am sure that this issue of the PANORAMA will recall in vivid retrospect, days we shared as we grew in wisdom, in strength and in courage. May this report of your school year 1962-63, bring you happiness and appreciation, now and in all the days ahead. From your superintendent this message - - let this year be but the beginning of a chain of years filled with the idealism of our school. MR. J. C. THOMPSON, PRINCIPAL The greatest satisfaction that can come into the lives of those that know you as Amory High School Panthers is to see the spirit of the Panther continue to live in you as you move into places of responsibility and leadership as mature citizens of your state and nation. 6
