CLASS HISTORY Freshman class--Buck Privates A troop train pulled up to the entrance of AHS and twenty-six recruits tumbled out somewhat bewildered and excited as they entered their new army camp. We were taken into Camp AHS where many other recruits had been inducted. Here we were gazed upon py officers and others in camp: some laughing and others making fun of us as we attempted to find our places. Our stay in camp had been short and each new recruit had been occupied with the formal part of getting properly adjusted to daily routine, when orders came for a special inspection. These orders were strange, but being a group of willing workers and having a sense of humor, we obeyed without hesitation. The order read something like this: All new recruits must appear for roll call promptly at 8:15 a.m. Wear clothes wrong side out and on backwards--girls in boys' clothes: boys in girls' clothes. Carry lunch in large cardboard box. Be prepared to do K. P. duty if found not properly dressed for inspection. THE SOPHOMCRES After having been initiated and each Freshman meet- ing the test: we were called together to select our of- ficers for the year 1939-40. The results were posted as follows: Sergeant, donnie Biehlg Corporal, Maebelle Sharpe: Private first class, Betty Jean Cunningham: First Lieutenant, A. A. Laymon. We chose red and gray as our colors and the red rose as our flower. UUnited we stand, divided we falln was chosen as our motto. Two buck privates were transferred from Danville to Amo--Jo Ann and Billie Jamison. Pvt. Harold Smith was transferred from camp during the last half of the year. At Christmas we had our annual dinner and gift ex- change. We were invited to Prewitt's theater at Plain- field for Army Maneuvers., Tourney time rolled around and our team, called the All Stars, met the Juniors and were defeated. The yell leaders were Mildred Weekly and Betty Jean Cunningham. Stunt night found us entertaining the audience by blending our melodious voices together in songs with Norma Jean Adelhelm acting as director. During 'the year we were invited to two parties which were thoroughly enjoyed.

Sophomore Class--Privates, lst Class - The beginning of our second year found twenty-five Privates, lst Class strolling through the camp of AHS. We weren't nearly so frightened this year as we had been the previous year and we felt very superior to the new recruits. During the summer Pfc. Loretta Flake and Kenneth Kidwell had been transferred to other camps. Pfc. Junior Russell, formerly of Stilesville, was a member of our company for four months and was then transferred back to Stilesville. Pfc. Burch withdrew from our pla- toon during the year. Our officers for the year were: Second Lieu- tenant, Billie Jamison, Sergeant Major, Jo Ann Jamisong Sergeant, Norma Jean Adelhelmg Corporal, Maebelle Sharpe, and Captain, Millard Vaughan. About six weeks after our army routine had started, we properly initiated the Buck Privates into their new army camp but repaid them with a very suc- cessful party in their honor that evening. At Christmas we had our annual dinner and gift ex- change. Pfc. Pfc. West and Burnett attended the Commercial con- test at Danville in Commercial Law. West also attended the Geometry contest at Indianapolis. V We were again unfortunate when it came time for annual camp tourney. We played the 3rd Division and were defeated. Our yell leaders were Pfc. B. Cunning- ham and Snyder. I Pfc. Biehl and Ellett attended the county ping pong contest at Brownsburg. Biehl won first place in the Girls' tourney and Ellett was runner-up in the Boys' tourney. Biehl then attended the district ping pong tourney, which was also held at Brownsburg, and received a plaque for winning first place in the dis- trict. At the close of this year we were invited to the Farewell party which was enjoyed by everyone.
