Understanding the culture and customs of people from other countries is the primary purpose of the foreign exchange program. For the second consecutive year AMHS is enriched by the presence of foreign exchange students - Domingo Crizul from Treinta Y Treas, Uruguay who lives with his host family, Mr. and Mrs. John Rebholz and Mikael Korduner from Harnosand, Sweden who lives with his host family Rev. and Mrs. William Perkins. A third student Timothy Murray from Grande Prairie, Alberta Canada, was an exchange student sponsored by the Rotary Club and lived temporarily with his host family Mr and Mrs Charles deQuillfeldt. He came to Amityville in September 1976 and left late October to reside in Islip. We were sorry to see him leave but happy that he is still in contact with individuals in our school and community. Domingo Crizul is sponsored through American Field Services Scholarships. When he first came to us he had some difficulty communicating verbally but quickly became familiar with the slang and colloquial expressions. He is a lively young man who is strong academically and is enjoying subjects that he would not have an opportunity to take in his country. He is contributing to our school community by participating in soccer, the AFS Human Relations Club and has photography as his hobby. Mikael Korduner is also a member of the soccer team and is enjoying a new learning experience here through the sponsorship of the Rotary Club. We are proud of our own students who are in other countries Lynn Decker in Japan and Debbie Budd in Mexico through Rotary Sponsorship. We look forward to their return. Jane Ann Bean, who is currently in her freshman year at Syracuse University spent the summer of '76 in Germany through AFS sponsorship. It is most delightful and informative to talk, work, and study with these students. As the communication grows and the understanding of differing cultures deepens through a continuing program we hope that indeed all the peoples of the earth will be able to work together in peace. ,

Dear Mr. Marino, We, the Class of 1977, have decided to co-dedicate our yearbook to you. You are our class father, our knight in shining armor, our class advisor and most important our friend. Words alone cannot express the sincere thanks that is in order for your hard work and dedication given to our class over the three years. You greased your hair and put on a pair of dungarees during 50's day and dressed as our 'frog' on costume day. As Spirit Week ended you shared our enthusiasm when we triumphed at the Pep Rally and again with the Homecoming float. You were there at the Donkey Basketball game and humored us by riding a donkey!!! Remember the paint you got on new pants helping us with posters? You knocked yourself out for us this year, didn't you? Well it did NOT go un-noticed. You worked to get our class united. You made our Senior year fantastic. You were there with unbiased criticism and ideas as we prepared for our prom. 'It's so hard to say goodbye . . . ', so we won't. We will leave this school with fond memories of our years and the man who made it great. To advise another class that will ever equal ours will be impossible, but we hope fif you doJ that they will bring at least half the joy we brought you. Again, THANKS CLASS OF 1977
