Crowley, C. Bona, B. Stelzenmuller, Mr. Kurland. RIFLE CLUB The moderator and coach of the Amity- ville Rifle Club is Mr. Kurland. He teaches the members how to handle and master a rifle. He trains them in shooting accurately and wisely. Two of Mr. Kurlancl's best marksmen are Joseph Scala, who had won a trophy, and Brian McGill, who won a medal for sharpshooting. The club is a member of the National Rifle Association, and holds its meets under the Association's rules and laws. Although the team has won only three of the five matches held this year, Mr. Kurland prom- ises better things next season. TENNIS Tennis, one of the newer sports in the school, only two years old, got off to a good start under the able coaching of Mr. Schmitt. In our first interscholastic year as a member of a nine-team league we At the end of the season we entered the Suffolk County Championships at Patch- ogue in which we took fourth place. The highlight of the year occurred in the Coun- ty Championships when our number-one man. Joe Ciuflfre, took 3rd place. concluded the season with six wins against eight losses. CROSS COUNTRY As the Cross-Country season came to an end, the Amityville Harriers finished ahead of the game with a 5 and 4- record. The varsity runners defeated teams from Baby- lon, Lindenhurst, South Huntington, Pat- chogue, and Bay Shore. They suffered de- feat from Riverhead, Port Jefferson, Say- ville and Huntington. This yearis captain, Charles Brantley, finished first for the team in the majority of the meets. He will be missed next year.
