Behind the pitching of Charles Langen and Frank Lomuscio, the Amity 9 closed the season boast- ing a ll-4 won-lost record. Under the direction of Mr. Stimola, the team, after losing the last of three games in a row to Port Jefferson, came back with determination and sportsmanship to win the next ten out of eleven games with the loss again at the hands of Port Jefferson. As it turned out, the two losses to Port Jeff were to he the decid- ing factor, for the team wound up the season one game out of first place. Much praise must go to this fine team for the excellent job they did. As is traditional, Amityville sent five boys to Pennsylvania to participate in the Penn Relays. These boys were: Benny Morselli, Colin McNaull, George Bates, Kenny Wood, and Gerrit Bakhuizen. The next week the team began hitting the cinders which started a long line of track meets. The season's schedule was broken up by the annual County Relays. This meet consists of seven four-man re- lays. A. M. H. S. placed in five of these: hurdle relay - 3rd, 44-0 yard relay - 2nd, 880 yard relay - 2nd, mile relay - 2ndg and the freshman medly relay - 4th. We were also just nosed out of a fourth place in the two-mile relay. On May 26, Amityville was host for the County Meet in which the team placed 4th, The points for Amityville were won by: Melvin Schulz 144th in the broad-jumpl, Bernie Wyatt 14th in the 220 yard dashl, Al Marquis 13rd in the high jumpl, George Bates 13rd in the 100 yard dashl, Walter Bailey, George Bates, Bernie Wyatt, and Al Marquis llst in the 880 yard relayl. The season was brought to a close with the section 8 lLong Islandl meet also held at Amityville. The 1957 track team which consists largely of this year's seniors has a very good chance to come out on top. Good Luck!
