Superlatives are not sufficient to describe the achievements of the 1978 Amity Football Team. Finishing the regular season with a 9-0-1 record and the Housy Championship, the team then played in the Class LL State Championship Game and ended Ansonia's 36 game win streak by the score of35-20. The Spartans finished as the only undefeated team in the state in addition to being crowned Class LL State Champs and be- ing ranked as the ffl team in the state by the Register State Poll. They were also ranked 53 in New England and 5432 in the nation. First year Head Coach Bill Johnson and his assistants Jack Coughlin, Bert Mozealous and Dave Barone are to be com- mended for their fantastic job this year. All three of this year's captains, Rich Lena, Joe Margolis and Rick DelBuono, along with Tom Crocco, were selected to the All-Housatonic League team. Kyle Perry and Eric Emanuelson represented the underrated offensive line by receiving All-Housy and All-State Honorable Mention, along with kicker Joe Carasone. Amity had the most personnel of any team on the All-State squad. Again, all three captains, DelBuono, Lena and Margolis were selected. Tom Crocco was picked for 2nd team All-State. Rich Lena also was named Register Player of the Week and was chosen Outstanding Player of the Year by the Yale Gridiron Club. A fitting conclusion to this amazing year came when the Walter Camp Football Foundation selected Amity as the 1978 High School Team of the Year. Amity Football PRIDE prevails. Best wishes H. W.
