In a poll of sportswriters and newscasters throughout the county, Bill Nanartonis, one of the Amherst eleven, was awarded honorable mention on the annual Prep All-American football team. Bill, winning further recognition, was also chosen by intercounty football coaches for the All-County football team. 26

The quinffif also played four schools outside the league and compiled a final record of sixteen wins against two losses. The Hurricanes were invited to compete this year in the role of defending champions in the Small Schools Tournament. Starting fast, the basketeers compiled ten straight victories before dropping a game to Arms Academy. Playmaker Bob Wilson h2lViUg been injured in the Frontier game, the Hurricanes lost one more game before retaliating to finish the season without another defeat. With the Amherst gym packed, the last game of the year against ArmS Academy was a tense and climactic contest. Coming from ten points behind in the last three minutes, the Arms quintet almost forced overtime, but lost the chance when their last foul shot went wide. With the final score 42-41 the Amherst team celebrated the end of an almOSf perfect season. 28 W o ttf, ii.
