Principals and Secretaries Helping students with their personal problems, making decisions which will affect Ames High School and future generations of students, interpreting the regulations of the Board ol Education as they affect the policies of Ames High, planning schedules which will meet the needs of both students and teachers, and conferring with students and teachers—these are some of the many responsibilities of our principal, Mr. Herbert Adams. The difficult)- in fulfilling these responsibilities has been doubled with the fact that classes arc held in two buildings. No other principal in the state faces such a scheduling problem. Mr. Everett Ritland, as assistant principal, has been in charge of many of the immediate administrative- duties in the new building. Working together. Mr. Adams, and Mr. Ritland have made the past two years of transition run smoothly. Mr Evert, Ritland.

Early this fall. .1 new school board was elected to cope with an old problem—where to house the ever-increasing en- rollment in the Ames Public School system. The completed second unit of the new high school will help somewhat in reducing the strain felt in all our public schools. The school board determines the overall policy for the management and operation of the school system. As the board s executive officer. Mr. Hetzcl provides the facts neces- sary in making important decisions and sees that the board's decisions are carried out. Officers of the school board are: Frank Adams, president; Frank Howell, secretary; and T. E. LaVelle, treasurer. 10
