SUPERINTENDENT AND SCHOOL BOARD Working closely together in order to plan the best policies for the Ames school system were Mr. Walter Hetzel, Superintendent of schools, and the school board. One of the main problems under consideration this year was how to house the growing number of pupils in all the schools. The first unit of the new high school, to be ready in the fall of 1960, will be part of the solution to this problem. In addition, the curriculum in many schools was changed and adapted where needed, and new courses and books were chosen to fit these changes. Mr. Hetzel was responsible for seeing that the policies of the school board were carried out. The school board, which met on the second Mon- day of’ every month, determined the budget for all the- schools and planned the changes that are necessary. This year, president of the board was Mr. Frank E. Adams; Mr. Frank Howell was sec- retary, and Mr. Hiram Munn was treasurer. SCHOOL BOARD: Don S. Stevens, Mrs. Lee Roscbrook, Thomas E.
