Principal Assisting Mr. Adams in the of- fice and leading busy lives were Mrs. Daisy Flack and Mrs. Ruth Green. The secretaries performed a multitude of services for Ames High, a few of which included typ- ing daily bulletins, weekly calen- dars, and stamping passes. They also filled in excuse slips, wrote letters, and acted as receptionists. They were assisted by the student help: Celia Hammond, Carol Cum- mings, Sandy Shultz, and Karyl Sills. They helped with the general office work. Holding down the executive eat in Arne- High School was Principal Herbert Adams, to whom Ames High School students will for- ever be indebted for support and guidance. The responsibility of administering the high school, organizing and coordinating all the various groups and units, and guiding the students were all included in the duties of Mr. Adams. He acted as a clearing agent for all problems of the school, and interpreted and executed the rules and regulations of the Board of Education as they affected the high school. Making out a schedule of classes for each member of the student body, advising the teachers, the students and the student groups were also responsibilities of the principal. Mr. Adams also spent part of his busy year welcoming visitors and new students, in- terviewing student teachers and supervising high school organizations. Mrs. Ruth Green twelve
