This page sponsored by AMERICUS STATE BANK SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In September 1951, twenty freshmen were initiated into Amerlcus High School. The girls wore men's workshirts, gunny sack shorts, onion corsages, a hat which was a pan, one rubber boot, and a man's work shoe, and hair braided in pigtails. The boys wore girls shorts, gunny sack blouses, a high heeled shoe and a rubber boot, and a woman’s hat. We were painted by the seniors and were slaves to them for that day. The class officers for our freshman year were: President, Harold Pickett: Vice President, Daniel Prachtj Secretary, Shirley Bassi Treasurer, Don Edmlston; Student Council, Jerry Sextons Mrs. Joann La Certe was our sponsor. The next fall we started to school with fifteen sophomores. We lost Jerry Sexton, Shirley Long, Richard Sherwood, and Barbara Stewart and Lee Roy Estes. The class officers for that year were: President, Bob Karr: Vice president, Mary Jackson; Secretary, Shirley Bassi Treasurer, Harold Pickett; Student Council, Lois Brasier; Sgt. -at-Arms, Daniel Pracht. Mrs. Audrey Loomis was class sponsor. The next fall we started to school with a new member, Pat Mounkes, who had previously gone to school at the Allen High School. The class officers for that year were: President, Don Edmlston; Vice President, Betsy Brasier; Secretary, Shirley Bass; Treasurer, Harold Pickett; Student Council, Bob Karr; Mrs. Arlene Kadel was our sponsor. We won the magazine campaign from the senior class that year. High salesman for our class was Shir- ley Bass, who won a fountain pen. We presented the play A Feudin' Over Yonder on November 4, 1954. The cast was: Pappy Popoff, Don Edmlston; Ma Fry, Janice Goodell; Willy Hornhonker, Don Beemer; Becky Mae Homhonker, Shirley Bass; Aunt Harry Hornhonker, Claudlne Morton; Clem Fry, Harold Pickett; Emmy Ffy, Lois Brasier; Rosie Bell Fry, Trula Mae Batson;Izzle Fry, Bob KarrjZeke Popoff, Norman Lowe; Mountain Maggie, Pat Mounkes; Preacher, Bob North; Three Guests, Mary Deller, Ann Phillips, and Mary Jackson. Wegave the seniors a Mardi Gras banquet on April 30. The king and queen of the Mardl Gras were Shir- ley Allen and Jerry Bamesberger. The gym was decorated in red and white, the seniors' class colors and a big sack of confetti hung from the ceiling. After the sophomores served the dinner, we entertained the sen- iors with a dance. Returning to school the next fall we were minus Claudlne Morton and Mary Jackson. The seniors went to Cfeage City on September 29, to have their senior pictures taken. That evening we attended a movie at the Osage City theatre as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bacon. As the seniors, we lost the magazine campaign to the Junior class. The high salesman from the senior class was Harold Pickett, who woman eversharp. Crazy as a Loon was the title of the senior play given April 8. The cast was: Ingrid Hanson: Shirley Bass; Alice Stafford: Trula Batson; Theodocla Twissel: Patty Mounkes; Sybil Sims: Ann Phillips; Jill Staffordr Betsy Brasier; Lois Stafford: Janice Goodell; Larry Stafford: Bob Karr; David Stafford: Norman Lowe; Roxan Kirby: Mary Lewallen; Martin Ford: Harold Pickett; Jim Stafford: Don Beemer; Officer Flarrity: Don Edmlston; Officer Floss: Bob North. Mr. Don Cade was our sponsor. We were guests of the Junior class at a banquet given at the Broadview Hotel and a prom at the Bluestem Dance Hall on April 29,1955. Three of the graduating class, Lois Brasier, Norman Lowe, and Harold Pickett, started to school togethe) in the first grade. The commencement exercises were held May 20, 1955. p In I960, Mrs. Audrey Loomis, journalism teacher, needed a long vaca- tion, and she decided to spend some time hunting up the members of the class of ”55 . Life has been rather dull since they left school. This is what she found: Mrs. Mary(Deller) Lewallen, her husband, Bill, and their eight children live on a big cattle ranch. Ann Phillips is a photographer for the Emporia Gazette and for the Photography magazine. Lois Brasier, who hasn't caught a man yet, but is still trying, is head operator for the Bell Telephone Company in Emporia. DonEdmiston, the expert woo pitcher, and a certain freshman girl are married and have three girls. Harold Pickett is running an ice cream parlor. He doesn't play basketball as he is rather plump from eating so much ice cream. Janice Goodell and her husband are running a sheep ranch in Wyoming. Shirley Bass attends all Americus High basketball games while her hus- band stays home baby sitting. Pat Mounkes is an actress working for M. G. M. Studios in Hollywood, and is still single. Bob North has set up an insurance business of his own in Americus. Trula Batson, who always did like to strut, is now the drum majorette for the Navy Band. Norman Lowe, who looks somewhat like Liberace, is now a famous dancing teacher in Paris. Bob Karr has served time in the Armed Air Force, and now is called, The Romeo of Indiana University . Don Beemer, who loves girls and cars, is now a famous racing driver. Mr. Cade, who had to do so much preaching to the senior class has taken it up as his profession. Mr. Marshall has retired to the jungle where all is peace and quiet.
