DEDICATION The Indian Scouts of 1953 dedicate this message to all the brave scouts who have preceded us and in whose trails we have followed, also, to those who will follow us. The scouts appreciate this fine school which we have attended and hope that those who are following our smoke signals will appreciate it al- so. YEARBOOK STAFF Editor -in-Chief.... They were Naomi Bass, president; Genevieve Wyatt, vice-president; Duane Pickett, secretaiy-treasurer; Phyllis Jensen, student council; Lynn Lyons, Lee DeWeese, Norma Edmiston, Clayton Finney, Bill Grimmett, Dean Kitzenberger, Wanda Pyle and Jack Gr- imsley. Victoria Daily was our sponsor. Grade White came and left at the middle of the year. The outstanding event of our freshman year was the initiation by the seniors. We wore long underwear, with diapers over them. We had to carry baby bottles filled with water all day. The day ended with a party given by the seniors. School started with the original twelve members our sophomore year After a short time, we lost one member. Lynn Lyons, w’ho moved to Wichita. Class officers were Duane Pickett, student council, Phyllis Jensen, president; Jack Grimsley, vice-president. Genevieve Wyatt, secretary-treasurer. Mr Patterson was our sponsor. Dressed in Dutch uniform, we served at the junior-senior banquet. Our junior year started with one new member, Jean Briggs. The officers were: Duane Pickett, president, Phyllis Jensen, vice-president, Naomi Bass, secretary; and Dean Kitzenberger, treasurer. The Awkward Pause, was the title of our play. Members of the cast were: Mr. Maxwell Mrs. Maxwell Betty Maxwell Connie Maxwell Wilber Maxwell Bernadine Smith Duane Pickett Phyllis Jensen ...Genevieve Wyatt ...... Dean Kitzenberger Wanda Pyle Norma Edmiston ...Clayton Finney Bill Grimmett ......Lee DeWeese The junior-senior banquet was held April 25, 1952. We decorated the gymnasium to represent the Stork Club. The night club entertainers were from talent in the sopho- more and junior classes. The junior mothers prepared the food. The sophomores served it night dub style, with the help of two cigarette girls. Twelve dignified seniors entered Americus for their final year September 2, 1952. Ending the first week, the seniors welcomed the freshmen and new teachers with initiat- ion. Those initiated dressed as nursery rhymes. We went to Osage City October 10, to have our senior pictures taken. In the even ing we attended a movie at the Osage theatre. The senior class and the junior class off- icers went to a journalism conference at the William Allen White School of journalism October 11. , , Some of the events sponsored by the class were; a chili supper, a carnival, food sales, paper drives, a magazine sale, and the senior play. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY The senior class of 1953 has just purchased a new device known as a Recto-Stadiumscope designed to enable one to look into the future twelve years hence and follow the activities of their former classmates. You may be interested in knowing what we discover. As we first look, we see Norma Edmiston, a person who always liked to keep up on other peoples busi- ness, as a telephone operator at Americus. Norma is excitedly jumping around on her chair while listening to a telephone conversation between Genevieve Wyatt and her mother. It seems Norma has a vacation coming up and since Genevieve's life sounds so exciting through her conversation, Norma decides to go find the wonderous and ambitious Genevieve and see if her life is really that exciting. From the conversation Norma hears Genevieve say she is scheduled to appear at Madison Square Garden the following night. As Norma arrives at the arena in Madison Square, she is fascinated to find a ring set up. A bell rings! Oh no! Can it be? Genevieve a wrestler, and with a title such as Tiger Rip Lucy ! Do 1 see right? Is her opponent Barrell House Lil the same as Phyllis Jensen! I never thought I’d see Genevieve and Phyllis fighting against one another. As we watch we see the victorious Tiger Rip Lucy”, Barrell House Lil , and Norma leave the arena and stan on their way to the home of Genevieve and Gary Jensen. Who is that catching up with them? Can that be Duane Pickett? Don't tell me Phyllis and Duane are still together! While following their progress we learn more about Duane. He is a major in the Air Force and is home for two months leave before going back to Korea. The four of them decide it would be fun to visit the rest of their old classmates. Deciding that they are hungry they set out for a nearby restaurant known as Shunshine’s Palace' Upon entering they see a familiar face--Mr. Swathel! Over a delicious dinner Mr. Swathel relates what he has been doing for the past twelve years. It seems he hit it lucky in 1958. made his first million, and is now concentrating on making his second. After hearing what the four classmates are up to. he decides to leave his restaurant in the hands of his man- ager and travel along with them. While boarding the plane to take them to Albuquerque, they caught a glimpse of the pilot. Is that Lee DeWeese? Mr. Swathel tries to find out. unsuccessfully. Each time he tries he is thrown back into the fuselage. Finally he gives up and calls the stewardess to take a message to the pilot. The message reads. If you are Lee DeWeese come at once. Your former classmates. They sit back and wait to see if Lee will appear. All of a sudden like a streak of lightening comes Lee DeWeese from the front of the plane, and is he glad to see them! When they reach Albuquerque they all climb down and start preparations at once to find Wanda Pyle. When they arrive at Wanda's home they are surprised at the ravishing beauty she has become. It seems Wanda studied hard after leaving high school and has become a successful model of Lane Bryant. She is now married and her name has been changed to Mrs. Dale Strube. Wanda decides to take them to see the sights. While on the way they see a cute little monkey danc - ingand holding a cup. That organ grinder! Is that--Oh no! It is Bill Grimmett. After dropping some money in the monkey's cup. Mr. Swathel persuades Bill to travel with them and he will pay his expenses. While venturing on down town, Lee steps off the curb and into the path of an oil truck. The driver is JackGrirosley. a little older but still the same old Good Time Joe . Lee is still taking punishment from his classmates it seems. , After getting Lee to the hospital in an ambulance, Jackie tells them what he has been doing for the (Class Prophecy continued) past twelve years. He is the father of three girls, all of whom have dark blonde hair and blue eyes. Quite a resemblance to their mother--she too. was a former schoolmate. When Lee finally regains consciousness they are permitted to visit him. Upon entering the room they see Lee shaking hands with a big tall, blonde doctor. Lee jumps up and yells, Don't you fools know who this is? This is Clyde! Clayton! Clayton Finney! There is no doubt that Lee is okay now, but Clayton decides to go along just in case. He promised to meet them outside. Clayton shoves them out the door just as a short, slim, brunette runs to Clayton. It looks as though Clayton's senior year romance lasted. From the hospital they decide to go to the circus which has just come to town. As they enter the big tent to see the main show, the high trapeze show is just beginning. The announcer's voice booms out the next attraction. We now present. Miss Jean Briggs with the most daring performance of all times. The eight former classmates gasp with disbelief as they hear the announcement. It is Jean all right. After her performance Genevieve and Phyllis go to her dressing tent where they hear all about her rise to fame. She took up the daring hobby of tight wire walking two years after leaving school because she got bored sitting around. It seems her husband is a busy railroader. When Jean found out why they happened to be there she wanted to go along with them of course. She never could stand being left out of anything even at A. H. S.. and decides she knew something they didn t know, which she decided to spring as a surprise on them. After persuading the former classmates to fly over to Livingston, Texas, she leaves her former class- mates to make a telephone call. Soon after her return with a smug look upon her face, the airport waiting room door swings open and who comes striding in complete from lariat to cowboy boots, none other but Dean Kitzenberger. Dean gives them a rousing welcome to the state of Texas, and invites them out to his Triple-Bar ranch. As Dean's two Cadillac's stop at the ranch house door, he yells to a man standing there. Hey stupe! 1 thought I told you to at least have your boots shined when we got here. Imagine everyone's surprise to see Mr. Garrison as a cowhand on Dean's ranch. This makes the whole class complete. Over a big barbecued beef dinner they hear the story of Dean and Mr. Garrison. Dean still remains a bachelor, but we foresee wedding bells to a little red-haired Texas gal. Mr. Garrison tells them that after the class of '53 graduated he had had all of the teaching he could stand, so he went to Texas to become a rancher. It seems Dean is going to have trouble keeping him on the job, especially sincere invited theclass-back next year for their vacations. CLASS WILL We seniors, the class of '53 being of unsteady mind and body, do at the time of our departure bequeath some character trait to some member of the student body. I, Clayton Finney, being of steady mind, will my long hair to Donald Edmiston, may it always stay in his eyes. I, Dean Kitzenbcrger, being of sound mind, will my abili- ty to be a ladies man to Norman Lowe. I, Lee De Wcese, give my ability to play a guitar to Bryce Davidson so that he may become another Gene Autry. I, Norma Edmiston, will my quiet disposition to Shirley Bass. I, Wanda Pyle, being of sound mind, will my studious character to Jerry Bamesberger. 1, Duane Pickett, will my ability, to do so little and still get good grades, to Don Beemer. I, Jean Briggs, will my ability for fluent speech to Anne Cook so the students won't miss me next year. I, Genevieve Wyatt, being of blank mind, will my ability to attract and fascinate boys to Mary Deller may she use it to the best advantage. I, Phyllis Jensen, being of idiotic mind, will my ability to play basketball and cheerlead to Donald Britain. I, Jack Grimsley, being insane, will my duck tail hair cut to Floyd Daharsh as a remembrance of me. I, Bill Grimmett, being of questionable character, will my build to Mr. Swathcl.
