History Nine Freshmen started their high school days at Americus, September 5, 1947. Members of the class were: Darlene Allen, Novella Armbrister, Charles Bass, Donna Brasier, Virginia Cowen Leslie DeWeese, Barbara Goodell, George Goodell, Gary Jensen, and Patricia Sexton. Donna Brasier was elected president of the class and Gary Jensen was elected vice-president. Pat Sexton was secretary-treasurer. Fred Griffith was our sponsor. The first week of school the Seniors initiated the Freshman Class. The boys wore girls' bathing suits over long underwear; while the girls wore men’s swimming trunks over long underwear. Both girls and boys wore rubber boots. The Seniors sponsored an all-school party for us that evening. When we returned to school the next fall we found a new student, Lyle Christy, Novella Armbrister had moved away to California. Gary Jensen was elected president of the class, and Leslie DeWeese, vice-president. Charles Bass was secretary; Barbara Goodell, treasurer; and Donna Brasier was student council representative. Mrs. Wilberta Herron was our sponsor. The Sophomore girls and Mrs. Pearl Kirkman cooked the food for the Junior-Senior Banquet. The boys helped with the serving. When school started the next year, Lyle Christy had left us and George Goodell was put up to the next class. The second semester, Dale Hartig moved from Clements and joined the class. Donna Brasier was elected president and Gary Jensen was the vice-president of the class. Pat Sexton was secretary-treasurer and Barbara Goodell was student council represent- ative. Mrs. Marie Bumgardner was our sponsor. On November 11, 1950, the Juniors presented the play, “Don't Darken My Door, a three- act comedy which was directed by Mrs. Bumgardner. “DON’T DARKEN MY DOOR Virginia Cowan..................Rosemary Kent Charles Bass.....................
