Class History of SO Fifteen Freshmen started their high school days at Americus on September 4 1946. Members of the class were: Eileen Bass, Dorothy Conrade, Rita Dieker, lUrbara Dyer, George Goodell, Marjorie Goodell, Wayne Goodell, Doris Harmon, Jean Lamb, Nadyne Lyon, Earl Miller, Barbara Neilsen, Alice Shelman, Carol Shepard, Ind Leonard Sowers. Barbara Dyer was elected president of the class and Eileen Bass was elected vice-president, secretary and treasurer. Bill Rapp was our sponsor. On March 3, Doris Pracht moved from Elmdale, making the total enroll- ment of the class sixteen members. The first week of school the Seniors initiated the Freshman Class. The boys wore burlap sack formals, sun bonnets and high heeled shoes, while the girls wore men's overalls turned wrong side out, With burlap sacks for shirts. The Seniors sponsored an all school party for the Freshmen that evening. Barbara Neilsen was candidate for the carnival queen. When we returned to school the next fall we found two new students, Jean Robinson and Ruth Rogers. Wayne and Marjorie Goodell moved to Emporia and Rita Dieker had moved to Bushong. Delvin Delfs, also enrolled as a Sophomore. Alice Shelman moved to Wichita sometime in October. Ruth Rogers was elected president of the class and Delvin vice-president. Earl was elected secretary and Carol treasurer. Opal Grinnell was our sponsor. Jean Lamb and Earl were candidates for the carnival queen and king. The Sophomore girls and Mrs. Jesse Birckett cooked the food for the Junior and Senior Banquet. The boys helped with the serving. Donald Pracht and Glenn Graham were the new members of the class when we enrolled for the Junior Year. Glenn left us the beginning of the second semester. Ruth was again elected president of the class, and Barbara Dyer vice-president. Jean Rooinson was elected secretary and Jean Lamb treasurer. Doris Pracht was elected student council member. Kenneth Bonczkowski was our sponsor. On November 12 the Juniors presented the play, Hi” and Sis in New ork a three-act comedy which was directed by Kenneth Bonczkowski.
