CLASS POEM The Senior Class of '49 Is the smartest group In a great long time. Here comes Jackie, There he goes. Where he is headed. No one knows. Crooner Frank Nelson, That’s his name, He plays a tuba. He’s rather tame. Next is Gwendolyn, She’s kind of neat. We think in her school work, She's hard to beat. For driving Model T’s Carl is quite clever. He went like a breeze, When he pulled on the lever. Richard Sowers the private (eye) He's in the marines, A regular guy. Rough and tough We have “Squirt”. He is just nuthin'. But a sawed-off jerk. William Rollins drives a V-8. When he visits Jeannie, He’s never late. “Phoggy” Pickett What a scream. He just sank a bucket For the Americus team. Edgar Johnson is quite a farmer. He is going to retire And be a charmer. Study on a problem. And wrack your brain, For Frank McCullough It is pretty tame. He's a clown, His favorite whimsey, He's a fine ball player, That’s Dale Grimsley. As a chauffeur Lorraine is the best. She can herd a Pontiac, Or any of the rest. Romona Pickett, That bright little lass, Writes all the inches For the journalism class. You manage to moan, and you’ll fret, But if you had to write these poems, You'd be here yet. J.M.N., Jr. 12
