The five finalists in our school were Carol Conerly, Ann Wright, Jim Dixon, Frank Gonzalez and Allan Castillo. The winner was Allan Who was awarded a S20 dollar prize given by the school. Second place went to Ann who received a gift certifi- cate. Allan proceeded to the 'fi- nals in Mexico City to com- pete with other school - - champions for the National Championship of the Amer- ican Legion, Department of Mexico. He came in first place and won a S500 dollar scholar- ship and an expense-paid trip to San Antonio, Texas, the site of the Regional Contest for 1972. The sponsor of the contest in Guadalajara is the Amer- ican Legion, Alvarez Cas- tillo, Post No. 3.
