A clean or quiet place its not, a necessary place it is. Twenty-four hours a day throughout the yarcl period the work continues, no matter where you look you will find Welders, decks being taken down to bare metal only to be resurfaced, equipment being ripped out only to be reinstalled again, and new equipment being installed. It is an environment of noise, grit and dirt, and the uniform of the day is coveralls rather than dungarees. Every ship eventually goes into the Yards for major industrial work required to keep our ships operating and current with todays warfare requirements. Although the majority of the work is done by civilian workers, many tasks remain the responsibility of ship's company. For every welder the ship must provide fire watches, for each job completed one of our shipmates must QA it, for every system installed ships personnel must test it. Each one of us gets involved one way or another to ensure the ship receives only the best, in the end the ship leaves the yard ready to meet the many challenges that await her. 45' ,gummy ll I e xx..
