Christiansen, Commander Carrier Division 7, shifted his flag to the AMERICA in September and made AMERICA his flagship for the bulk of the WESTPAC deployment. Homeported in Alameda, Calif., Carrier Division 7 was commissioned in 1956 and is comprised of the ENTERPRISE, ORISKANY and RANGER. During de- ployments, the commander of the carrier division becomes a task group commander when he embarks in a carrier in the Pacific Fleet. On occasions during the deployment, RAdm. Christiansen was designated Yankee Station Commander and commanded the attack carrierlstriking force in the Gulf of Tonkin. RAdm. Christiansen himself has been involved with naval aviation since he first enlisted in 1941. Commissioned in 1943, he flew combat missions during World War Il and the Korean Conflict. 1 During his career he has commanded VF-11, VF-32, Air Wing Six, Ready' Air Wing Four, USS TAPPAHANNOCK and USS CONSTELLATION. The carrier division alternates between assignments with the First and Seventh Fleets. While with the Seventh Fleet, Carrier Division 7 is involved in combat operations in Southeast Asia.
