ll '1:g,f:.r --1-,...m',gg-.::1M..ca:t -of -'U 'onunander Georges Executive iiieer Commander Georges E. LeBlanc, jr., has served as Executive Officer of the AMERICA since july, 1971. The 1972-73 WESTPAC deployment was the third extended deployment Commander LeBlanc has made aboard the AMERICA during his 22-year Naval Career. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Commander LeBlanc entered the Navy in August 1950 and was designated a Naval Aviator in November 1952. Following his commissioning, he was assigned to Fighter Squadron 124 and subsequently deployed with the squadron aboard USS BOXER and USS HANCOCK. During his next assignment with the Naval Air Special Weapons Facility, Com- mander LeBlanc flew in support of Atomic Energy Commission projects, partici- pating in Operation I-lardtack fthe atomic test of 19581 as a weapons effects test pilot. In june 1959 he transferred to Air Development Squadron 5, where he served for two years as a project officer, responsible for developing both conventional and nuclear final delivery tactics for various attack aircraft. Commander LeBlanc served the following two years as the Nuclear Readiness Officer on the staff of Commander Naval Air Force, Atlantic Fleet. In August 1963 he received orders to Attack Squadron 64 with which he de- ployed as Operations Officer on the AMERICA and USS ENTERPRISE. In 1966 he attended Armed Forces Staff College and in 1967 served as Executive Officer of Anti-Submarine Fighter Squadron 3, deploying to Southeast Asia aboard USS INTREPID. I In March 1968 he stepped into the role of Commanding Officer of Attack Squadron 215. After commissioning the squadron, he deployed with it to Southeast Asia aboard the ENTERPRISE. In 1969 Commander LeBlanc moved to Washington, D. C., Where he served as an A-7 Program Coordinator in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. The following year he assumed command of Attack Squadron 125 and-returned to the AMERICA in 1971. Among his decorations, Commander LeBlanc wears the Distinguished Flying Cross with three gold stars, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal with two stars and strike flight number seven, and the Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars and Combat HV . .
