Amarillo high school holds its place in the zommunity, located in downtown Amarillo at l2th and Polk. Amarillo is a city on the move, and we, the future citizens of this town, are the compelling lorce to keep Amarillo moving. Today we watch lt grow, tomorrow we become a part of that growth. There are many things to he done and we must do them. We see the intricacy of commercial Amarillo. We must prepare ourselves, as the youth of today, we must devote our zeal and enthusiasm to be leaders tomorrow. AHS'5

Jh1eal1 Expresses . . Scholarship, sportsmanship, service,', the motto of Amarillo high school plays an impor- tant part in the lives of all Sandies, from the time We enter school as sophomores until We are graduated, and every day in between. We are all different, in our activities, our studies and our outside activities, but while we are Sandies We are all united in one common goal. We are now at an age where responsibility is on the increase. We have much to think about: where will We go after graduation, what will we take next year, will We go on to college or will we set out in the world on our own. As we strive for culmination of human communication and understanding, we become universally ex- pressive. For one year of our lives we were united in common motto, and when We must go on to bigger and better things, even as we find ourselves growing up, there will always be a part of us that is Amarillo high school. The Sandman stands out as a symbol of Sandie spirit. 1 1

We have a feeling of pride in our athletic teams, it is in this pride that all of the school spirit we possess manifests itself, emotionally and vocally. The spirit of the Sandies is un- matched at football games, at basketball games and at pep rallies. Sandie teams have achieved immortality because of their spirit. Our teams, sense of sportsmanship and values is upheld despite all odds. The Sandies Win with humility and accept defeat as a means to greater victory. As far as desire tempered with good play is concerned, no Sandie ever lost a game. AHS'6
