Walt Minder — A Man of Many Hats This yearbook is dedicated to Mr. Walt Minder for the 35 years he has devoted to AlWood. He started his career in 1948 teaching general science, algebra, and three classes of industrial arts at the junior high level. Walt also coached freshman football, assisted with varsity football, and coached seventh, eighth, and ninth-grade basketball and track. In 1967 Walt was given the position of athletic director. Mr. Minder was recognized for his achievements at three different occasions during the year including a football game on September 24. A banner was presented to him from the AlWood coaches and erected in the high school gym at a basketball game on January 7. Members of the AlWood Athletic Boosters Organization sponsored an Open House for Walt on Sunday, April 17. In 1962 Mr. Minder added the driver education program to his duties and since then has instructed approximately 1500 students. He set high goals and standards for driver’s ed. and in return was recognized by the state of Illinois for having an excellent program. 4 Walt Minder will be missed at AlWood by students and faculty. We will lose his superior driving instruction and his efficiency as an athletic director, but most of all we will lose his devotion that has become such an important part of AlWood.
