Ironically, it was the new principal who made it easier for everyone involved to adjust to these changes. He has shown a tremendous amount of energy work- ing for the betterment of our school. Also, he brought with him to Alvord an optimistic attitude. If there was a problem, he would say, “Don’t worry, we l] work it out.” It is this attitude and the openess with which he treats students that make him a friend to everyone. The Senior Class of 1985 is proud to dedicate this edition of the “Bulldog” to Mr. Gene Shackleford. September 23,1984 With Congressman Charles Stenholm as special guest and speaker, dedication of the new high school was held in the gymnasium that was constructed as part of this educational facility. Local school officials, present and former trustees, architects, engineers, designers, and others who were part of the project were recognized, or took part in, the formal dedication ceremonies. Flags of the United States and the State of Texas that had flown over the respective Capitols were presented to the school. An open house was held in which many in- terested members of the community toured the building and its classrooms, computer center, science laboratories, home economics areas, library, photography darkroom, and offices. Trustees at time of building proposition: President: Architect: Melton Neighbors Litteken Paul Associates Vice President: John Culwell Secretary. In putting together this yearbook we hope the pictures that fill these pages bring back memories ... maybe not all of them good, but not all bad either. In the years to come we hope this will become, for you, a valuable remem- brance of the '84-’85 school year. We would also like to say a big THANK YOU” to Mr. Thweatt — for without him, in no way would this annual have been possible.
