October 28, 1953, was Homecoming Day at Alvo High School. The four candidates, Carol Zoz, Eleanor Kellogg, Eleanor Gilmore, and Mary Louise Eckery were es- corted onto the field. Then Darlene Johnson, the retiring queen, crowned the new queen, Mary Louise Eckery. The Two game captains, Dick Clark and Jim Hermance, escorted her to her royal chair. That evening the Homecoming dance was held in the Alvo gym with Bill Jenkins Combo furnishing the music. A large crowd attended both the game and the dance. Mary Louise was also chosen to represent Alvo for the Apple Bowl Queen November 1 1 at Nebraska City. 21
