“V An eicrhth-c ffeniosi ACCIDENTAL HERO of An eighth-grade extra-curricular or high-achool class, threatened by loss 'frills, set out to show their value by a bang-up presentation of a play. The young and perhaps too serious coach does strange things with the casting—albeit for noble reasons. The self- styled glamor girl finds herself cast as a scrub woman. Tom- boy Peggy is given the role of a grandmother, and John--inter- ested only in designing chicken houses—is cast as the hero. Even Kitty who s to play the heroine1s part is unhappy. In the play, she s required to kiss the hero; and her father is running for the School Board on a non-smooching platform. Rehearsals get under way and everyone gets underfoot. There s the school principal who has grease-paint longings, the local reporter who s fond of the coach, and some nosey P.T.A. members who start a ticket rush to discover Just how questionable the play is. Opening night produces a resounding success in which the sound-effects man, the prompter, and the school principal play leading roles. The curtain falls as the coach keeps her job and her man, John»s chicken house is proclaimed a success, Kitty gets a hamburger, and school keeps its frills. i CHOOL CAKMJYAL t Ay On Friday night February 8, a school carnival was held in the Alvo High School Auditorium and was a huge success. Tnere were prizes, refreshments, and entertainment, all put on by the high school students. The reason for this carnival was to help the basketball team and volleyball team pay for their uniforms. The income from this carnival was not quite enough to pay all of this but it helped immensely. The entertainment consisted of small skits put on by different groups. The small skits were, Amos n Andy , Smoky Joe and his Rocky Mountain Boys , Aw-w-w , TBe Gossipy Gossip- ers , and others. Many cake walks were held, along with general carnival activity on the midway. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and did a very good Job of patronizing the stuaents in their undertaking.
