With instructions from Mr. Lin Shampine, the girls participated in tournaments and the interschool tennis matches, sponsored by the PACA League. Sister M. Helen advises the Pep Council, which is composed of fresh- man, sophomore, junior and senior representatives. The Council pro- motes enthusiasm for Alverno's volleyball, basketball, and soft- ball, and it sponsors pep rallies and posters announcing the coming events. TENNIS, ANYONE? . . . GAA, GLC Snow Trip, The Girls' Athletic Association is one of Alverno's largest clubs. The GAA com- bines friendship and spirit with athletic appreciation: A GAA member does not have to Win, but she does have to know how to lose. She need not possess the athletic ability of an Olympic champion, but she must have the spirit of one. In addition to regular athletic activi- ties-the volleyball, basketball and soft- ball teams-the GAA sponsored a trip to Big Bear. The Alverno Girls' Letter Club is an ex- clusive athletic association. In order to be tapped a girl must have three team credits, one varsity, and a good rating in character and leadership from the GLC members. The special activity of the GLC is hiking to such places as Mount Lowe.
