Interest In Science, Mathematics Because mathematics is a Womarfs break- through in industry, the Mathematics Club is instituted to encourage further study in, and to explore interesting approaches to mathematics. The Alverno Mathematics Club has had a successful beginning this year under the direction of Sister Catherine. In December members toured Burroughs Computer Plant in Pasadena. The most enjoyable and con- fusing project of the year was the human computer. After perfecting the machine the members demonstrated it to their parents at the APA meeting in March. UH . . Human Computers, Field Trips, Stimulate The Alverno Science Club, af- filiated With Science Clubs of America, sponsors activities and field trips Which stimulate interest in science. Under the direction of Sister Marianne members have seen the movie, The Strange Case of Cosmic Rays, have heard the reports of participants in seminars, and have toured industries which deal in the practical applications of science. Spanish, French Clubs Study Culture, Art LA SEIRIORA DE PILAR . . . Spanish snu- dents celebrate a feast day of our Lady and Columbus in one procession. This year with Sister Anthony, advi- ser, the Spanish Club sponsored activities such as the procession in honor of Our Lady of the Pilar, patroness of Spain, and a poster drive to increase awareness of the school patroness, Our Lady of Guada- lupe. Club members Went to the Padua Hills Theater for a dramatic pro- duction of Las Posadasf' At another meeting, Joaquin Gamboa, from LaSalle High School, discussed the school system of Latin American countries.
