X f Superintendentps Message Friendship is needed and desired by everyone. A friend is a person that one is attached to by esteem, respect, and affection. ln order for people to become friends, one person or the other has to take the first step. This is often accomplished by a kind act, a compliment, or just a smile. Once friendship is establishedg it must be cultivated if it is to flourish or grow. We would choose those to be our friends who are honest, sincere, sym- pathetic, kind, understanding, tolerant, and of good character in general. When we expect these characteristics in our friendsg then we must first develop them in ourselves. Friendship knows no barriers such as age or economic status, it is to be honored and cherishedenever betrayed.
