R Give Us This Past Year You have come to one of the greatest moments of your life - graduation. What- ever you think of this great event, I sug- gest that you think of your schools as a source of knowledge, as the birthplace of leadership, as the place where you have been e uipped for the great tasks that will coiiliront your generation. I trust you will never forget the precious heritage of the carefree days of your school years. At this time you owe it to yourself, to your country, and to the world, to dwell seriously upon other things -chiefly upon your responsibility to society, and your own little part in the scheme of things. Having worked with you these past three years, the faculty and administration of the Altoona Senior High School know that you are prepared. You are equipped to accept challenges and to measure up to your responsibilities. We know that you are capable and firmly believe that you are aware of what is expected of you. And, finally, knowing what is expected of you, you can and will come through. Good luck always. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL Mr. Edgar Brooks

fu PRINCIPAL Nlr. joseph N. Nladdocks The AD INIST Commencement is a time for reflection and self-evaluation. This event means a completion of this part of your educational career, and at the same time it means the beginning of another educational adven- ture, the entrance into some field of en- endeavor. just as the close of one day marks the beginning of another, the com- pletion of one task marks the beginning of a new one. So it is in education. What you have learned in school is only a be- ginning. The end of a formal school pro- gram merely means the commencement of experiences that will test the principles learned and the knowledge acquired. Commencement is a time to re-examine yourself, re-evaluate your aims and objec- tives. and make definite resolves with re- gard to the future. Look at yourself in a mirror. Do you have much respect for or confidence in what you see? Do other people? Does the person facing you have a purpose, a goal? Is it a good one? ls that person prepared now to work toward that goal? How great is the difference between what that person is and what he should be? With best wishes to every member of this class as you commence the larger life which lies just beyond the threshold.
