MR. E. M. LEAMON, Assistant Superintendent The short periods of time we pause along life’s turbulent road to enjoy the companionship of our fellow men, will help us to develop a wholesome personality and provide us with many g ratifying memories.” f £ MR. MACY PRUITT, Administrative Assistant in charge of Junior and Senior High School Curriculum. ' Conditions in the world are changing so rapidly that we tend to lose our perspective. We have emphasized science and neglected social studies, art, and music. We must put equal emphasis on all areas of the curriculum. Science has reduced the world to a neighborhood; the other subjects must make it a brotherhood.” 4 MR. C. R. WRIGHT, Administrative Assistant in charge of Vocational Education. ' According to Projections of the U. S. Depart- ment of Labor, the years ahead will find Vocational Education serving ever larger numbers of Americans. Present increased enrollments in Vocational Ed- ucation are indicative of the trend toward more satis- factory utilization and training of available man- power, upon which our way of life depends.”

Talking with members of the Tatler staff In conference with administrators I want to comment on the importance of an education in this atomic-space age. Some of you may think that a high school diploma is all that you need to get a good job. Experience will prove that a diploma is not enough. And further, academic and technical train- ing that is required to find a suitable position will undoubtedly increase each year. The personnel officer in the employment office and the col- lege admissions officer will be interested in your ability and your attitude, as well as your achievement. I strongly urge all of you to make a self-analysis of these qualities and discuss them with your parents and counselors. Your future deserves careful planning. The public school curriculum in Alton makes it possible for you to get a good high school education. It is important that you take advantage of the opportunity. The record you make will follow you into business, industry, or college; and only your best efforts will prepare you to compete. Please remember that Less than your best is not success.’ Dr. J. B. Johnson
