In M-emoriam Miss Jennie Cates, teaching her twenty-fifth year in Alton High School, was called to the great beyond on March 14, 1943 after an illness lasting nearly three months. Jennie Cates was a friend to her pupils and fellow faculty members. Her life was an example of devotion to duty and service to her friends. Miss Cates served as sponsor of The National Honor Society and The Student Forum with the deepest sincerity of purpose any one could expect. A beautiful example of a Christian life has been brought to an early close, but the many good deeds of Miss Jennie Cates shall live in the hearts of her legion of friends as long as they shall live.
