AHS is proud of its well equipped art department which features, among other things, a kiln and a potter's wheel. Modern Dance was offered for the first time this year at AHS. Dance as well as art provides a means of creativity and self-expression. Mr. Micheal Violett - art and dance instructor. Esther Blankenship performs a dance of her own creation. 29

M-UCIC DEVELOPS MEW TALENTS AND ABfLTTTES The music department at AHS is an extensive department which provides students with an opportunity to develop and express their musical talents. The courses offered in music are chorus, girls' glee club, band, and fundamentals of music. In band, students play various instruments and various styles of music. They have selections in pop, jazz, overtures, and themes from Broadway musicals. Chorus and girls’ glee club also have a large selection of different types of music. Fundamentals of music is the study of composers, their works, and all basic knowledge of music, such as scales, notes, and keys. Chorus, girls' glee club, and band combined this year to present a Christmas cantata entitled, Love Transcending.

BUCINEM EDUCATION FREPARE£ STUDENTS FOR BUSINESS ORIENTED WORLD Mr. Cook tellsmis general business class about the ing economy of the nation. AHS has an advanced business department which helps prepare students for future jobs. Mrs. Millsap works hard to help students learn the business courses they take. Typing I and II, shorthand, clerical practice I and II, secretarial practice II, and accounting are offered at AHS. The students in these classes learn to use various machines such as typewriters, adding machines, dictating machines, and duplicators. Mr. Cook teaches general business. The course includes a study of taxes, consumer problems, business organizations, transpor- tation systems, and communication systems. Students who have taken most of these courses feel prepared for a job. Many of them decide to go to college or a technical school for advanced training. These students always appreciate the good start they got in AHS business courses. Mrs. Millsap puts on dictation for the shorthand class 30 The shorthand class is trying very hard to take a letter at 80 words per minute.
