Mr. Bartholo- mew's automobile mechanic classes learn what makes Students absent from class must secure an admit slip before reenter- ing. Janet Crossland secures her blue slip from the office. Mr. Williams determines if the absence is excusable or unexcusable depend- ing on the reason for being absent. Whether they expect to be busi- ness wizards or homemakers, today's Alton students may study general business, typing, clerical practice, or shorthand. In addition, students learn to use electric typewriters, a ten key adding machine, and a memeograph machine. Shorthand is not the least important subject offered in the A.H.S. curric- ulum. Charlotte Williams uses skills of dictating and transcribing.

Guidance service is a very essential pan of the curricu- lum. The guidance counselor guides students inthe fields of their interests. For students planning to enter college counseling is a must . Students must have met certain requirements to enter the college of their choice. Carol Garrison and Mrs. Hufstedler examines the permanent record Carol has made in her four years of high school. Carol plans to enter Arkansas State Univer- sity next fall.
