CLARK SECRETARY Mrs. Dorothy Cline ASSISTANT SECRETARY Mrs. Judy Mills Administration The administration works untiringly to develop Alton's students into more responsible young adults. The responsibility for the successful operation of the entire school rests upon the shoulders of its super- intendent, Mr. R. J. Clark, and its principal, Mr. C. W. Williams. One of the major responsibilities, of which Mr. Clark is in charge, is the federal program. Title I, Title II, and Title III is a familiar topic of concern for Mr. Clark, and his work in this field is always for the betterment of the school. An equal amount of responsibility is placed in the hands of Mr. Williams. The task of our princi- pal is to organize, to plan, and to maintain proper human relationships. Organization and planning help create an atmosphere involving purpose and common goals within the classroom; human relation- ships contribute toward creating a desire on the part of students and teachers to do a better job. Many more responsibilities are in the capable hands of the superintendent and principal, and we at A.H.S. are ever striving to aid the administration in their endeavors to make this one of the best sys- tems in our area. In this play. Thornton Wilder’s main objective is to move the audience by presenting the common- place aspects of life that we all share. In their production of Our Town , the speech class attempted to dramati the everyday events of life through the most effective means possible - peopl and life as they really are. This play was a challenge for those who presented it, and an incentive to those who saw it. Above all, it was a play about Our Town . This play is It's the worst scandal that ever hit this town! Exceptional ballplaying by the Comets re- sulted in 2nd place trophies in the Couch and Big Springs Conference Tourna- ments. The games involved in these tournaments, and other games through- out the season, were hard and fast and will not be forgotten by many Comet fans. Two members of the varsity team, Johnny Presley, and Van McGibney, were named to the All Tourney Team of both the Alton Inv. Tournament and the Big Springs Conference Tournament. Other members of the A Team dis- played outstanding ability throughout the year. The pictures on the facing page are scenes from the Homecoming game which was upset by Thayer. The upper righthand picture shows Mike Dethrow going up for a tip-off, and in the lower right hand picture, Johnny Presley goes up for a jump ball. The accompanying picture is a typical scene from a practice session. Strong bench support, who showed their value more than once, is seen in the lower picture.
